My name is Joseph Slee, though more commonly go by Joe or Joey. I hold a Master of Counselling through Canberra University and have qualifications in the field of Psychology and Social work. I grew up in country Victoria on a small hobby farm though relocated to Albury when I commenced university. Since completing my undergraduate in Psychology, I spent a number of years traveling, living and working overseas and abroad before coming back to settle in the Albury area to be around family. I developed a passion for helping others through a number of years working in the hospitality industry. I often found myself as an accidental counsellor while working in bars or cafés and was able to develop my skills for listening and building relationship with others. I have since spent a number of years working within the community services sector, working alongside vulnerable youth and families with experiences of trauma and poor mental health. I believe that everyone is a unique individual, so I offer an integrative therapy approach, where the therapy can be tailored to suit their needs. I draw on a number of different techniques, notably Person-Centred and Strengths based approaches, Solution Focused Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, CBT, Internal Family Systems, as well as Mindfulness and Existential approaches. I am particularly drawn to working with ADHD and neurodiversity, helping to build understanding and acceptance for unique ways of thinking as well as developing meaning and purpose. I’ve received additional training in trauma informed care and crisis counselling and have much experience working with people going through trauma, depression and anxiety, grief and loss as well as a range of mental health issues.

I am passionate about working one on one with people, either in person, online or within the community to help them achieve their therapy goals. A key focus of my practice is developing a trusting, positive relationship with my clients and helping them to feel comfortable to explore their internal and external worlds. In this relationship and counselling space, we can set off on a journey together, where we can learn more about ourselves and develop tools and strategies to help us in our time of need. The aim of my work with clients is to help them discover their authentic self and to realise their full potential.

Sometimes people aren’t able to fully understand themselves or see their potential without the help of others guiding them. I work to provide a service that is flexible and can be adapted to a variety of needs or challenges. Working within this space we can set goals for therapy and work together to develop a greater understanding of self and achieve positive outcomes. Outside of work I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. I have three children who certainly keep me on my toes, but also motivate me to help support and build a good community for them to grow up in. For my own self-care and downtime, I enjoy reading, listening to music, completing home renovation projects, cooking, or playing old school strategy games on the computer (mostly Medieval Total War). I love to travel and am always up for an adventure to discover new places both at home or abroad.
